I have been working in accounting since 2009, though the path here had a detour.
My first run at college was fashion merchandising. It wasn’t for me. But the accounting classes I took alongside it were, and numbers clicked in a way that felt natural. So I went back to school properly: a diploma in accounting and then a degree in business administration.
From there I joined a small local firm in Barrie, Ontario, where I spent 11 years working my way up to leading the small business department. By the time I left, I was overseeing more than 500 business clients alongside a large personal tax practice.
In 2022, I started HC Bookkeeping Services and began working with business owners across Canada.
The part of this work I love most isn’t the spreadsheets (though I genuinely don’t mind them). It’s the people. Every client comes from a different industry, a different background, a different version of “I just want my business to work.” Taking the financial piece off their plate so they can build the business and life they actually want — that’s the job I want to be doing.
